The Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, designed by Zaha Hadid, takes the form of a sharply folded, sculptural volume whose outer shell influences both its aesthetic presence and spatial organization. Its facade, composed of pleated stainless-steel panels and glass, wraps the building in a dynamic skin that changes with light and perspective, reflecting the surrounding paths and sight-lines on campus.
Inside, a dramatic floating staircase and open gallery volumes support a variety of exhibition formats, while the facade-shell helps modulate natural light and connect interior spaces to the exterior environment. The design emphasizes movement, fluidity and interaction—both visually and spatially—making the museum not just a container for art but a component of its campus context and a piece of architectural sculpture in its own right.
