Our London office is seeking a talented and motivated computational facade consultant to support our growing facade design and development team. We are currently working with some of the world’s leading architects, developers, and contractors on projects including super-tall commercial developments, extremely high-performance high-rise residential buildings, art galleries and museums, and entertainment and leisure complexes. The role will involve participating in a variety of projects, providing detailed technical and design support, engineering analysis, and advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop digital workflows for the delivery of complex projects from concept to completion

• Contribute to the development of internal design modelling tools and R&D initiatives

• Work with the internal design teams, clients, architects, and other consultants to provide support, analysis, and documentation for projects

• Represent VIA at meetings

• Use parametric, thermal, and other analytic software and interpret their outputs

• Review own and others’ work as part of quality assurance

• Provide support in the creation of design presentations and reports

Skills and Qualifications

• A degree or certification in a related discipline (architecture, computational design, civil engineering, etc.)

• 2+ years of proven computational design experience in a professional setting

• Solid understanding of geometry

• Demonstrated advanced skills in Rhino and Grasshopper

• Good skills in graphical representation and communication

• A strong attention to detail

• Initiative and proactive working methodology

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Advantageous

• Experience with eleFront

• Demonstrated experience providing inter-program operability through their respective APIs

• Demonstrated experience in at least one programming language (C# or Python a plus)

• Experience with Revit as well as interoperability between Rhino and Revit

• Experience working with a facade contractor or specialist facade subcontractor

• Prepare high-quality 2D drawings and technical documentation in accordance with project requirements and relevant standards

• Develop and coordinate façade details, ensuring buildability, manufacturability, and alignment with architectural design intent

• Perform site inspections, factory visits, and review both visual and performance mock-ups and prepare relevant technical reports

• Represent VIA at workshops and meetings, communicate with clients and manage relationships

• Review own and others’ work as part of quality assurance

• Contribute to internal R&D efforts across a range of initiatives

Skills and Qualifications

• A degree in architectural engineering, architecture, engineering or a related discipline

• 3+ years’ experience in façade design, technical design, or façade documentation in a consulting, construction, or contracting firm

• Strong understanding of façade systems, construction methodologies, and building envelope principles

• Demonstrated experience in developing detailed drawings for curtain wall or other architectural façade systems

• Understanding of façade materials, fabrication processes, and installation methodologies

• High proficiency in AutoCAD for detailed 2D documentation

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• A strong attention to detail

• Initiative, proactive, and collaborative working methodology

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Represent VIA at workshops and meetings, communicate with clients, and manage relationships

• Review own and others’ work as part of quality assurance

• Contribute to internal R&D efforts across a range of initiatives

Skills and Qualifications

• A degree in engineering or architectural engineering

• 3+ years’ experience in façade design, detailing, and analysis in a consulting, construction, or contracting firm

• Strong technical foundation and a solid understanding of building performance and science issues

• Demonstrated experience providing technical analysis, calculations, and evaluation of system designs and outcomes

• Demonstrated experience in developing detailed drawings for curtain wall or other architectural façade systems

• Proficiency in an FEA package such as Strand7, AutoCAD for 2D drawing development, and Rhino for 3D modelling is required

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• A strong attention to detail

• Initiative, proactive, and collaborative working methodology

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
